You better make sure it will go smoothly if you're planning a public proposal when hundreds of observers might be present.

That calls for stepping up the romance, ensuring that your significant other will actually say "yes," and, of course, keeping the engagement ring secure.

In order to ensure that (almost) nothing went wrong, Zay engaged an event planner to organize the perfect engagement on Coogee Beach in Sydney, Australia.

Of course, as soon as onlookers noticed the many candles and the large block letters that said "Marry Me" spread out on the beach, they gathered to witness the event.

It, therefore, comes as no surprise that at least one observer, who was filming the charming proposal from a distance, managed to capture the exact moment that everything went wrong.

In the video, which has since been uploaded to TikTok and received over 1.4 million views, Zay proposes to Sai while crouching down in front of the magnificent light show.

The crowd erupts when she says yes. But calamity strikes only a few seconds later.

In the following footage, Zay, Sai, and their pals are shown desperately searching through the sand for an engagement ring that had fallen and become lost among all the activities.

The event organizer said in an Instagram post about the engagement: '“Everything was going so well, according to plan until our beautiful bride dropped the ring into the sand.

"More than two dozen of people jumped in (and) started searching for the ring."

Some people who left comments on the now-viral TikTok stated that Zay could have been more organized.

"That's why you hire someone with a metal detector on site or place netting down," one comment read.

Can you imagine how long it took to set up all those candles? Give the guy a break.

Some others warned the couple that losing the ring so soon after it was proposed to them was a "bad sign" for their marriage.

However, based on Sai's response to the suggestion, I don't believe there is any cause for concern.

She posted a photo of the beach setup to Instagram with the caption: "I said YES!! Completely taken by surprise and completely in love.

"I never could have imagined a proposal as perfect and magical as the one you gave me. You have a way of making everything so special and unforgettable.

"Thank you for making me the happiest person in the world. I am so grateful to have you as my partner, my best friend, and now, my fiancé."
