Margot Robbie was surprised by the explicitness of the orgy scene in "Babylon" and had doubts about its approval from censors. She jokingly recommended watching the film with parents despite its explicit content.
Margot Robbie Admits She Has No Idea How Babylon ‘Got Away’ With Filming Wild Scene
Despite being in The Wolf Of Wall Street, Margot Robbie claims she was shocked by how graphic another of her movies was.
The Australian actor co-starred with Brad Pitt in Babylon, an epic period drama about the silent film era, last year.
The plot may not seem particularly explicit, but the film highlighted the excess of early Hollywood, including an insane orgy sequence.
Babylon's plot is loosely based on the lives of the following individuals: "A tale of outright ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood."
It actually turned out to be so obscene that one critic referred to it as a "dazzling, dizzying cacophony of demented depravity."
The film even shows an orgy at the freshly created Hollywood Hills, directed by Damien Chazelle, the mind behind Whiplash and La La Land (yes, really).
Although it isn't too dissimilar from the events in The Wolf Of Wall Street, Robbie acknowledged that she was a little surprised by the opening scene.
Carey Mulligan described the scenario as an "enormously debauched, crazy, wild party" with "lots of people wearing very little or nothing" while speaking on Variety's Actors on Actors series.
Robbie said, "It's pretty much a party-slash-orgy," in agreement with her fellow A-lister's assessment of the situation. It resembles an orgy in a way.
"When I read the script, I was like, this is like La Dolce Vita and Wolf of Wall Street had a baby - and I love it.”
However, the Barbie celebrity had doubts regarding the potential approval of the suggestive scene by the censors, admitting: "But I was like, are we allowed to show that? Are we allowed to show that?”
“There were so many scenes where I was like, a) I have no idea how I’m going to do that, and b) are we going to get away with this."
Mulligan then made a hilarious revelation, much to the Australian star's surprise, that she had seen the movie with her mother.
While we wouldn't advise watching the racy drama with your parents or other family members, Babylon's leading woman has different ideas.
She joked: "Everyone should see Babylon with their parents. It won’t be awkward at all."
Margot Robbie, despite her previous experiences in provocative films, found herself taken aback by the explicitness of "Babylon."
The film's exploration of early Hollywood's excesses, including a captivating orgy sequence, pushed boundaries and left Robbie questioning its potential censorship. Nonetheless, she embraced the project's unique nature, jokingly recommending others to watch the film with their parents, although the explicit content may make for an uncomfortable viewing experience in such a company.
