Speaking at the UBS Global Consumer Conference this week, McDonald's U.S. president said: ‘We're working on a customer-designed loyalty program that we think will be as good as there is out there in the marketplace.'

Secondly, the scheme will function through the recently launched McDonald's app, so there won't be any crumpled Caffe Nero style stamped cards in sight.

And most importantly, the rewards will be food themed most likely with smaller items, such as fries or McFlurry's offered up for free after you visit a set number of times.

NRN reports that the scheme will be ‘robust', and will pull data based on how often a customer visits the chain's restaurants every month, as well as what they usually order.

They also suggest that customers would have a limited time to use the deals and freebies offered through the app, as a way to encourage customers to come back if they haven't indulged their golden arches cravings in a while.

No official confirmation on when exactly this magic will start rolling out, but rumours popping up on the internet suggest the scheme will start appearing within the McDonald's app by the end of this year or in early 2017.
