As someone whose sole mission in life is to get an impressive set of abs and a booty to match, I can understand the temptation to go to any extremes to get that ideal body. When you spend three quarters of your life at the gym but are incapable of quite reaching your body ideal, somehow the prospect of getting a little external help becomes appealing. Whilst I've never taken steroids (in fear of developing an Adams Apple and back hair) I can sympathise with those who do. One man who takes his health and fitness training to the extreme is Rich Piana. Rich is a man who is fully committed to his body, so much so that the 45 year old admits to taking steroids from the age of 18.

You don't need a personal trainer certification to know that taking steroids for such an extreme period of time can take its toll on the body. Piana's longterm use of steroids is so worrying in fact that other body builders have created hours of YouTube footage, begging him to stop taking them. National drug education service, Talk To Frank, explains that the use of steroids in men can lead to: "erection problems, growing of breasts, becoming sterile, loss of hair and development of acne. It can also make your testicles shrink."

Rich Piana is the man who has been openly taking steroids for three decades. In one video he explains his decision: "'If you have the choice to do steroids or stay natural, stay natural. There's no reason to do steroids, you're only hurting your body and hurting yourself. But if you want to become a professional body builder, guess what? You're probably going to have to f***ing do them, you're not going to have a choice. That's the boat I was in." Rich also openly discusses his steroid use on his YouTube channel. In the video below he reveals how much he spends on growth hormones every month. The figure might just shock you.

As well as posting online workouts to his YouTube channel, Piana also chooses to share his drug taking schedule with his followers. Piana has also managed to launch a successful fitness franchise complete with a clothing line and supplement business off the back of his body building. He credits his honesty for his success and massive following: "Coming out, talking about steroids, just being straight up with people. I think people trust me." It's safe to say that Piana's life is all about fitness. In 2005 he got married to his partner Sara in a tank top tuxedo. If you're wondering what on earth that might look like, then you are in luck because their wedding video is below. If you've ever wondered what a tank top tuxedo looks like, then you're in luck because we have the answer. For the record, if Rich Piana's wedding outfit was turned into a meme, it would probably be captioned "when you're getting married at six but you've got gym at seven".
