#1 Mich Dodge had a good life in the city, however, he chose to trade it for a better life in the wild.

He now lives in a tree stump, eating leaves for sustenance and spending his days running through the wilderness with his dog. He primarily lives off the land, having left modern civilization over 25 years ago. "There is not much that I do not eat. I am an omnivore, able to eat a wide variety of food, which also means that I learned how to become a scavenger and allowed the hunger in my belly to guide me into discovering all kinds of food. For example, I would come upon an elk killed by a cougar. When a cougar kills an elk, the entire forest moves in to eat. So I do the same." He uses a pine cone to brush his teeth.

#2 He is known as the Barefoot Sensei, and is being filmed for a TV reality series.

Mick hasn't worn shoes since 1991, earning him the nickname "The Barefoot Sensei" he says it increases the bond with nature, it sounds a bit uncomfortable to me but good on him. Despite this being far from the norm and initial responses may be to think he is slightly odd, I think Mick is a bit of a legend. He has tattooed roots on the tops of his feet to mark his unity with nature. His reality show about how he lives off the grid is being filmed but Mick isn't letting that get in his way and continues to live the way he loves.

#3 He enjoys the excitement each day brings but he does miss his grandmothers chocolate chip cookies.

Before committing to the wild life, Mick owned two houses, a car and lots of material possessions. However, he says he's never had so little, nor has he ever been happier!

‘There was this excitement and adventure I found by stepping out of the modern world.' Excitement that he's kept alive for the past two and a half decades.

Mick loves living away from modern society, and he says he will never go back to his old lifestyle. He still enjoys some modern conveniences though, like his clothes. Mick relies on plastic garments to remain dry while living in a wet climate. He said, "The art of living out here is the art of staying dry."
