Meet 18-year-old Madeline Stuart, a model with Down Syndrome who is trying to change the face of beauty.
According to the National Down Syndrome Society, weight struggles are common for people with the syndrome. Madeline, known as Maddie, was 40 pounds (18kg) overweight a year ago. She decided to start on a healthier diet and exercise program and focus on health and fitness.
#1 Maddie cut out junk food and began exercising regularly. Now she lives a healthy and active lifestyle and hopes to launch a modelling career.
#2 Maddie is now looking for an agent to start her modelling career. She has the support of her mother, best friend, and boyfriend. She wants to make a real difference in the fashion industry. She also wants people to see her photos and not discriminate against people with disabilities.
#3 I think it is time people realised that people with Down syndrome can be sexy and beautiful and should be celebrated, her mother told the Metro.
#4 Her mother added: “People with Down syndrome can do anything, they just do it at their own pace. Give them a chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations.”
#5 She’s quite the athlete. Aside from dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading, she also swims and plays basketball and Special Olympics cricket.
#6 One thing that Rosanne hopes people will remember when they hear Maddy’s story? To keep an open mind.
#7 Thankfully, people with disabilities are being accepted by more people. Even a doll-maker is now making dolls with disabilities.
#8 Maddie is clearly a talented and determined girl so we’re very confident this isn’t the last we see of her modelling career. If her story has touched you then visit her Facebook page to show your support.
