Melania Trump once shared details about former President Donald Trump’s nighttime routine back when he was still leading the country. The revelation gave people a glimpse of just how little rest the former president actually gets.

Throughout his time in office, Trump often bragged about functioning on only four to five hours of sleep each night. For many world leaders, that might not sound too surprising — but those close to him say he rarely ever slows down, even late into the night.

Although it’s not known how much sleep he gets these days, Melania described her husband’s habits during a campaign appearance last year, painting a picture of a man who doesn’t seem to spend much time resting.

During an interview on Fox News’ The Five to promote her memoir, Melania: A Memoir, the former First Lady opened up about some surprisingly personal details regarding her husband’s bedtime routine — perhaps more than anyone expected to hear.

Melania said: "He doesn't sleep much," before quickly adding: "He does, of course."

When Fox News host Greg Gutfeld asked whether Trump wears pajamas to bed, Melania immediately shut that down with a firm “no,” making it clear she wasn’t about to elaborate.

"What does he wear when he sleeps, Melania?" Gutfeld continued to tease, hoping for a more specific answer. But Melania stayed silent, simply miming a zipping motion across her lips to signal she wasn’t saying another word.

The lighthearted moment aside, Trump’s unusual sleep routine has long been a point of curiosity. Many have wondered how he manages to maintain his energy on so little rest — and whether that affects those around him.

His habits have also been discussed by journalists who’ve spent time covering his travels, some of whom say keeping up with his schedule can be exhausting.

CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins spoke about this on Jason Tartick’s Trading Secrets podcast, describing what she learned from insiders about the challenges of flying with Trump aboard Air Force One.

She explained: "I had this source who said you never want to be on Air Force One on a trip, and I said, 'Why?' You would think you would want to be in the axis of power, close to Trump."

As a former Chief White House Correspondent, Collins said it was difficult to adapt to Trump’s unpredictable sleep patterns — especially on international trips that required long hours in the air and overnight flights.

Collins went on to say: "He doesn't sleep on these trips and like, you're going to Asia or something, and that's kind of the only time you're going to sleep before you go on this trip, but Trump is just always up and talking."

"He'll have them go wake staff up if they're asleep because he wants to talk to them."

In one of her reports co-written with colleague Kevin Liptak, Collins described how Trump would often disrupt quiet nights aboard Air Force One. "He'll summon sleeping staffers to his office at moments the rest of the plane is dark, impatient to discuss his upcoming meetings or devise a response to something he saw in the media."
