The legendary pop star Michael Jackson busted his butt to create his one-of-a-kind image, including his super high-pitched voice. But now, his buddies say he faked that famous voice.
Michael Jackson was a total boss at what he did, and his super famous high-pitched voice was a major part of what made him so awesome on stage.
So apparently, insiders who were tight with the King of Pop spilled the beans that Michael had a different voice when he wasn't on stage. It was way deeper! This was like his secret alter ego that nobody knew about.
Michael Jackson was an icon known for a multitude of things: his trademark trilby hat, the bedazzled glove that became a symbol of his style, his long, flowing curly hair, and, of course, his unforgettable and iconic voice.
Jackson's musical director, Samm Brown III spoke to VH1 in 2005 and revealed some interesting intel about the hitmaker.
He said: "I hope he doesn't get angry at me for telling you this, but that's his public persona. I remember a time I called him up and he answered the phone and I didn't know I was talking to him, because he was talking in his normal voice, which is pretty deep."
When they were on Larry King Live, Michael's buddies Liza Minnelli and David Guest totally talked about his one-of-a-kind voice, giving us the inside scoop on the cool things about the King of Pop's personality.
David said: "I think people don't know the real him. He doesn't talk like [that]."
Liza Minnelli candidly confessed that she had always believed Michael's high-pitched voice to be genuine, and she even shared a humorous anecdote to lighten the conversation.
Minnelli was shocked when she picked up the phone at home one night and heard Michael talking to her late partner, David. It was such a surprising moment that she'll never forget.
The actress couldn't hold in her amazement and quipped: "I said: 'Michael, you're busted. I got you now. All these years, you've been talking in that voice!'"
When asked, the ex showbiz couple agreed that they thought Jackson made up this persona to protect himself from the outside world's pressures.
Liza theorized: " 'This is who you think I am and I can be me within these walls but you can't come in.' He's been hurt too much, Larry. I mean, they have said kind of rotten things about him. The person that we know is a rather regular guy, believe it or not."
In a 2005 interview with Michael's former wife, Lisa Marie Presley, Oprah Winfrey made an interesting observation, noting that when she encountered the Thriller singer, he conversed in what she described as a "normal voice."
Presley totally agreed and started talking about Michael's personality, pointing out how different he was when the cameras were off.
In his lifetime, Jackson never weighed in on rumours about his voice, but he did repeatedly accuse his father of abuse, claiming the patriarch forced him to strip, covered him in oil and beating him with an iron cord.
"He would just whip you all over your face, your back, everywhere," he once said, revealing his mother Katherine would plead with him to stop.
He continued: "I would just give up, like there was nothing I could do, you know. And I hated him for it."
One clip shared online also sparked a lot of comments about his voice.
One person wrote: "I did not know his deep voice sounded that handsome." Another said: "His deep voice is awesome."
A third commented: "I never thought MJ's deep voice was like that."
