Microsoft Has Now Banned All Easy Passwords

Bad news if you're the person who still relies on classic passwords such as ‘123456' or ‘password' - Microsoft is about to stop you.

From now on, Microsoft simply won't allow weak passwords - or at least not ones which are commonly used on hacked accounts.

That will, sad to say, include all the classics such as, ‘Password123'.

Microsoft is using ‘dynamic bans' - which look at the most commonly used passwords in lists of hacked accounts leaked by cybercriminals, and block people from choosing them.

As of now, this applies to all Microsoft accounts - used to access PCs, Xbox accounts and Skype accounts.

Microsoft said, ‘We analyse the passwords that are being used most commonly. We see more than 10M accounts attacked daily, so we have a lot of data about which passwords are in play in those attacks.

‘We use this data to maintain a dynamically updated banned password list.

‘We then use that list to prevent you from selecting a commonly used password or one that is similar. This service is already live in the Microsoft Account Service
