Millie Bobby Brown Says She Became A Feminist After A Psychic Told Her So

In an interview featured in Glamour on October 16, it was reported that the Stranger Things star reportedly credited her feminist awakening with a visit to a psychic who informed her of her feminist beliefs.

When she got home, Brown recalled that she immediately searched on Google: “How do I know if I’m a feminist?”

After delving deep into the internet, the actor expressed that she deeply comprehended the concept of feminism and its personal significance to her.

She came to the realization that, at its core, feminism is about creating opportunities.

“Ultimately it’s about opportunity,” she told the outlet.

Through her production company, PCMA, Brown has placed a strong emphasis on feminism in her work. Her primary goal is to bring attention to the narratives of girls and women, whose stories are still reportedly underrepresented in cinema to this day. 

PCMA takes its name from the initials of Millie Bobby Brown and her siblings - Paige, Charlie, Millie, and Ava. This family-run operation, spearheaded by Millie and her sister Paige, actively seeks out literature that focuses on the stories of girls and women. 

Through their initiatives, PCMA successfully acquired the rights to the Enola Holmes books, leading to a thriving franchise in collaboration with Netflix.

In her upcoming Netflix fantasy-action film, "Damsel," Brown continues to showcase her commitment to narratives centered on women.

The movie, featuring Brown alongside Angela Bassett and Robin Wright, follows the journey of a fearless princess who battles dragons. Brown openly acknowledged that the central theme of the film is feminism.

Beyond her role as a producer, the 19-year-old actor remains dedicated to advocating for women in her capacity as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. 

At the remarkable age of 14, Brown addressed the United Nations, making her the youngest person ever appointed by the organization. 

In her role, Brown has championed various causes and raised awareness about menstrual care and education for girls across the globe.

Brown is reportedly taking online classes at Purdue University and studying human services, to supplement her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. 

“I don’t need to do a whole big thing and change the world,” she explained to Glamour. 

“I don’t need that. But if I can do the small things that help people - their heart, their mind, their spirit - then that’s what I’ll do.”

Apart from her work with UNICEF, Millie Bobby Brown has been outspoken about addressing the misogyny present in the way the public and tabloids discuss young women.

 In a 2022 episode of the Guilty Feminist podcast, she shed light on the "disturbing" manner in which the public has treated her since she reached the age of 18.

“I have definitely been dealing with that more within the last two weeks of turning 18 - definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way that the press and social media have reacted to me coming of age,” Brown told podcast co-hosts Deborah Frances-White and Susan Wokoma.

“I believe that that shouldn’t change anything, but it’s gross and it’s true, and… it’s a very good representation of what’s going on in the world and how young girls are sexualised.”
