A Miss Universe executive’s harsh words toward a contestant during a Facebook Live broadcast have stirred major controversy.
A senior Miss Universe executive has drawn criticism after publicly scolding one of the contestants during a pre-pageant event held in Thailand, creating tension just weeks before the official competition.
The Miss Universe 2025 final is scheduled for November 21, but contestants have already begun a busy lineup of rehearsals, photo sessions, and cultural events leading up to the show.
On November 3, during one such preparatory event, pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil addressed all the contestants in a meeting that was live-streamed to thousands of viewers on the official Miss Universe Facebook page.
What started as a routine update soon escalated into a confrontation when Itsaragrisil publicly called out Miss Mexico in front of her peers, leaving many in the room uncomfortable.
This year’s Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, reportedly did not participate in a photoshoot organized to promote Thailand — the host country — which contestants were expected to share on social media as part of their duties.
According to Itsaragrisil, Bosch skipped the session because her national director had advised her not to attend, a claim that quickly became the focus of their argument.
Bosch is believed to have denied his accusations, saying she had not been instructed to ignore the photoshoot. As she spoke, Itsaragrisil interrupted her repeatedly and pressed her to confirm that she would eventually post promotional content about Thailand, as reported by PEOPLE.
At one point during the exchange, he allegedly referred to Bosch as a “dummy,” which visibly upset several contestants and drew gasps from the audience watching online.
Despite being “dismissed” by the executive, Bosch remained standing and attempted to respond to his comments, determined to defend herself before leaving the stage.
Itsaragrisil was heard saying: "I still keep talking to everybody, why you still stand up to talk to me?"
"Because I have a voice," Bosch firmly replied, adding: "You are not respecting me as a woman."
The tense back-and-forth continued for several minutes until Itsaragrisil called for security to intervene. However, many of the women in the room protested, with several voices heard saying “no” in disagreement as the situation escalated.
As Bosch exited the room, she turned to Itsaragrisil and told him: "As women, you need to show respect for us. I'm here representing a country and it's not my fault that you have problems with my organization."
Several contestants quickly followed her out in solidarity, including the reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who was reportedly among those unwilling to stay after the heated exchange.
Itsaragrisil then urged the remaining contestants to stay put, warning that anyone wishing to continue in the competition needed to return to their seats and remain calm.
Moments later, Miss Bonaire approached the executive to mediate and encouraged him to de-escalate the situation and bring Bosch back into the room.
"We can fix this. We can bring her back," she said in an attempt to smooth things over, followed by "We're having such a great time in Thailand. This is such a great place. You're doing everything right. Let's get her to come back." — a plea meant to calm tensions and repair the mood in the room.
After the incident spread online and drew criticism from fans and pageant followers worldwide, Itsaragrisil posted a public apology across his social media accounts.
In a video statement addressing the controversy, he said: "If anyone [was] feeling not good, if anyone [was] not comfortable. If anyone [was affected], I do apologize for everyone."
Itsaragrisil added that he had also apologized directly to the contestants present during the incident, emphasizing that he wanted to take responsibility and move forward from the misunderstanding.
