People criticize mom’s controversial choice to cover her baby in temporary tattoos saying that they ‘enjoy this lifestyle’.
Every parent has their own way of raising their child but Shameka Morris blew everyone out of the water when she started sharing pictures of her baby covered in tattoos.
The fashion designer mom from the USA started posting pictures of her son to her Instagram showing him covered head to toe in tattoos.
She revealed online that she had started tattooing her son from the age of six months old.
This raised some eyebrows among the Insta community questioning her parenting choices.
The images soon went viral, triggering strong criticism and backlash from the internet.
She continued to defend her choices and expressed her love for tattoos.
She revealed later on that the tattoos were temporary which did little to dissuade the public.
Not one to be bothered by the court of public opinion she said, “For the people that judge me, I don’t care because this is a lifestyle that we enjoy.”
She further added, “I receive a lot of aggressive reactions. People claim that I am raising my son as a ’gangster’ or a ’thug,’ and they are not accustomed to seeing a baby with tattoos.”
“When I was eight months pregnant, I did a photoshoot with my brothers at a tattoo parlor.”
“From that moment, I faced mockery on social media."
“All the comments were negative, with people saying that my baby would be born with many tattoos and that his skin would be tainted. It was unbelievable.”
While it was a relief to people that the tattoos were temporary, the criticisms kept pouring in citing concerns about whether the ink or chemicals in the tattoos were safe for the baby’s skin.
Morris also said that she was emotionally impacted by the backlash.
“The reaction has been terrible. It hurts my feelings because I know I am not a bad mother.”
While tattoos are far more accepted now than they were before, controversy still surrounds them, especially when it comes to babies.
