A mother has shared her distressing experience of being dismissed from her job after arriving more than an hour late on her first day, attributing the delay to navigating through heavy, uncleared snow.
Damita JoMama (@swagger_waggon) from Arkansas took to her TikTok page on January 15 to detail the events that unfolded after she was allegedly branded a 'liar' by her new employer.
She expressed her affection for her previous job but was enticed to join a 'popular ambulance company' due to its superior pay, hours, and benefits.
She highlighted the unpredictability of the weather in her area, noting: "If you know anything about Arkansas, we don't usually get snow. So when we do get it, everything shuts down."
Opting for her SUV over her usual car in an attempt to ensure punctuality, Damita explained:
"I have never had to drive in snow before because every job I've had previous to this, I've always been off when there's snow," highlighting her lack of experience with such conditions.
Describing her journey to work as 'terrifying' and mentioning how she got stuck on main streets, she was prepared to explain the situation to her employer:
"So long story short, I get there almost an hour late, but I'm thinking like, 'OK, I'm gonna be apologetic."
Upon arrival, she candidly shared with her colleagues, "I've never had to drive in the snow before."
She added: "It took me longer than usual. But now that I know, I can prepare better for next time. And I'll be here on time," hoping to convey her commitment to punctuality in the future.
However, the response she received was dismissive, with the person she spoke to seemingly indifferent to her reasons, merely questioning:
"You're late. Why couldn't you get here?"
To which Damita responded: "Maybe I'm not used to driving in snow. I got here as quick as I could," trying to justify her tardiness.
Subsequently, Damita was called to a meeting where she was informed that her employment could not continue, followed by her being escorted out of the premises.
She expressed her astonishment at the company's decision, sharing with her followers, "I'm just like, 'Are you f**king serious? It's snowing two to three inches of snow!"
Adding to her frustration, Damita recounted how her honesty was questioned over not calling ahead: "Oh, and another thing, she tried to call me a liar because she was like, 'Well, why didn't you call?' I was like, 'Well, I didn't have a number to call because the emails that y'all sent me didn't have no damn phone number'."
Concluding her story, Damita said:
"So, long story short, f**k that job and hopefully I can get my old job back."
She also mentioned her intention to contact HR about the incident, as indicated in her TikTok caption: "I'm still in shock but best believe HR is getting an email from me."
