Marine Corporal Shane Kielion took a sniper’s bullet during the Battle Over Fallujah. The day Shane died, November 15, 2004, also happened to be his son’s birthday. Just 30 minutes after he breathed his last breath, his wife April gave birth to their son, Shane Jr.
Mom Shows Son Lost Footage Of His Late Father Reading To Him

It was on that day that April promised she would keep Shane's memory alive. "I hope that he could know how wonderful his father was," the Omaha mother says in 2004 footage, holding her newborn.
Eleven years later, Shane Jr.'s dad is practically his idol. "Sometimes it makes me sad, but most of the time I don't think about the bad stuff I think about the good stuff," Shane Jr. told WOWT.
Just recently, Shane Jr. was able to have the closest thing to a conversation with his dad when April unearthed an old 8-millimeter recording. The day before he deployed, Shane read three children's books to his unborn son on camera.
He looks into the camera and reads to his son. "'Here comes some modern-day heroes,' Marty said. ‘Make sure you wave your flags as they go by. What is a hero?' Marty asked."
Then finally he says to Shane Jr., not knowing what the future would hold. "Sorry that I couldn't be here. I'll see you in April or May. I don't know what to say. See you in April. Love you, son. Love you, everybody."
Shane Jr. may never have met his father, but with this small gesture, he can see the kind of man he was.
