After dissecting the snake, Rosie Moore and her team of scientists discovered that it had swallowed a 5-foot alligator entire. The footage of this discovery was broadcasted on Instagram.
The 18-foot-long snake's inside was discovered to contain a whole alligator in a grisly video.
Rosie Moore, a geoscientist, and her colleagues were observed dissecting the Burmese python and removing an alligator that was about five feet long.
The 26-year-old claimed that Florida field workers had captured the snake, put it to death, and then transported it to a lab where a necropsy would be performed.
The crew sliced the snake in half and then laid it out on the floor to share the procedure on Instagram.
They took hold of what looked to be the alligator's head inside after noticing the stomach bulge.
The scaly reptile was still inside when they dissected it.
As they gather information on size, length, and morphometrics, researchers can learn a lot about a reptile's diet by performing necropsies, according to Rosie.
She continued by saying that dissecting it and removing the stomach contents will enable them to understand more about the effects that the animals have on their ecology.
"The Burmese python (Python molurus bivittatus) is one of the largest snakes in the world (up to 20+ft)," she further explained in the captions.
"This particular Python was roughly 18ft, and had consumed a 5ft alligator."
"Due to the subtropical environment of South Florida, paired with the Burmese python's long life span and rapid reproduction, these snakes have successfully invaded ecologically sensitive areas such as Everglades National Park."
"This poses a threat to a variety of wildlife, due to the pythons' wide dietary preferences."
"In media, female scientists are often portrayed as the shy, dorky characters," she told the Daily Mail.
"I think it's important for young women to see that is not the case, and that being a scientist can actually be a cool thing to aspire to be."
Rosie, who also moonlights as a bikini model, claims that there are only 30% of women work in the geosciences. She wants to change this perception.
