Happily Married Mom Revealed She Fell In Love With Another Mom At Kids' School

Leah Hamilton, who is from New Zealand, was living in Berlin, Germany, with her husband and two young kids. While getting to know other moms at the school, she met another unidentified woman.

“One day, I noticed that my new friend from my kids’ school was staring at me intently,” Hamilton wrote in a personal essay published by Insider. 

“‘You look really fit,’ she mumbled. ‘And your eyes are so beautiful.”‘

Hamilton acknowledged that she and the other mother, who was also married to a man, shared a common spirit of being "wild, adventure-seeking types" and seeking enjoyment. Their friendship swiftly evolved into a physical relationship.

However, Hamilton never anticipated that her feelings would develop into a profound love for the outgoing German woman. With genuine excitement, she revealed, “As the days wore on, it became clear that it was more than just physical chemistry.”

Hamilton and her husband had an open or non-monogamous marriage arrangement, where they were free to explore connections with other people. In fact, she confessed that they had even shared kisses with other individuals on their own wedding night.

Nevertheless, Hamilton was unsure about how her husband would respond to the news that she had fallen in love with someone else.

“I had no idea whether my husband would support me if I wanted to connect with her not just as a hookup, but as an actual relationship. This was a new step for us,” she stated. “But he was measured, calm, and accepting.”

The other woman's husband, along with Hamilton and her own husband, formed a foursome that embraced and embarked on an unconventional romantic journey together.

“We spent time swimming in lakes, biking through the forest, and partying until 4 a.m. Our families intertwined, my husband and her husband joined us for dinner with all of our kids,  we shared childcare, we supported each other in times of sadness, and we celebrated joys and successes together late into the night,” Hamilton wrote.

Hamilton and the other woman were able to maintain their relationship for two years. However, the intensity of their connection became too overwhelming and unbalanced, causing them to decide to end the relationship.

“It was a fun relationship, but not a healthy one. The breakup was inevitable, she mournfully recalled, revealing that the split left her feeling heartbroken.”

“I cried every day for weeks. My husband patiently delivered chocolate chip cookies and red wine to me as I lay in bed.”

“He listened to my sorrow and hugged me. He took care of our children and the household more than usual,” Hamilton declared.

After several months following their separation, Hamilton shared that she and the other woman reconnected and made the mutual decision to remain friends, despite the end of their romantic relationship.

Additionally, Hamilton disclosed that she continues to have a deep sense of trust in the other woman's husband, even to this day.

Nevertheless, Hamilton wrote the essay as a tribute to her own husband, recognizing his unwavering support and acceptance of her journey in exploring her feelings and desires.

“With my husband’s support, I felt empowered to be myself and to experience life in all its fullness, including the soaring heights of new love and the plummeting depths of heartbreak,” she declared. 

“I always say that my husband is the best person I know, and after 12 years together, I still believe it.”
