Nail Trends That Should Have Never Become A Thing & Need To Die ASAP

Nail art is a rising trend in the fashion world. Decorative diamonds, peculiar shapes, and extreme lengths are just a few of the most popular nail designs. With so many different decals and configurations, finger nails have become a whole new way for people to express themselves by personalizing their appearance.
Unfortunately, not all variations of the trending topic are as elegant as a simple rhinestone accent. Some patterns contain large, 3D bubbles on each nail, while others are a bit, shall we say, hairier. These bad-fashion creations must be done for pure shock and awe, because they can’t be taken seriously.
This is a list of some of the most absurd nail trends in 2016, mostly trends that you can't really function with and would definitely be better off functioning without.
#1 Bubble Nails - Bubble gum anyone?
This makes me want to liquefy my entire body a la Alex Mack and live as a fingerless puddle of goo for the rest of my life. I CANNOT with this. It has rendered me unable to can.
I feel nauseous imagining running my fingers over these bizarre lumps. Goodbye, cruel world.
#2 Aquarium Nails:
Seriously, who comes up with these things?
Glitter and charms, suspended in oil, moving around on your fingers all day? Distracting, yes. Bizarre, sure. But damn, that's hypnotic.
#3 Hairy Nails - Where hair is not meant to grow, it should not grow!
At first, this ridiculous trend might be perceived as a joke, unfortunately it is not. Rest assured, there are people out in the world gluing hair to the tops of their nails. Why someone would do this is another question entirely. There is nothing appealing about fur-lined nails.
Cat ladies of the world might find the fur soothing, as they can now take a piece of their feline everywhere they go, just in a truly horrendous fashion. Does everyone remember the Jewel Troll Dolls that were popular with children in the 1980’s and ’90s? Their hair was stiff, colored in eccentric hues, and usually stiffened into three, distinct spikes. Nostalgic youth can never seem to find these beloved trolls anymore because this is what they have been recycled into.
#4 Lego Nails:
Did you know this was a thing? Apparently as well as building and creating, legos can also be used as nail art. Do you think this looks good? Or ridiculous…
#5 Duck Feet - from Jersey Shore, We have learned to never ever adopt anything they do, including their choice of nail trends
Defined as square-shaped acrylic nails that are wider at the tip than the base, duck nails had a brief moment of fame thanks to Snooki and the "Jersey Shore" girls. This shape makes me feel very uncomfortable.
#6 Textured Nails
Anyway, this textured nail thing has been happening for a few years, at least, and it's time for it to die a sudden, violent death. Let us bid it farewell. And if anyone has some cotton balls and polish remover, I'd love to say my goodbyes ASAP.
#7 Spiral Nails
This quirky, spiral nail might just be used as an accent piece, but it’s a fine line between fashion and trashy, and this, unfortunately, extends over into the trashy side. Imagine catching that nail on the loop of jeans or in a purse zipper, the pain would be excruciating, but it would teach the wearer to never trust this trend again.
Somewhere, someone is wearing an entire set of these nails, struggling to text, type, and perform and other basic human function. There is just simply no reason for nails to exist in such irregular shapes. The spiral is in no way made better by the added argyle details. The black and pink color combination screams pre-teen, which is probably the only age group who would mistakenly experiment with these incredibly off nails.
#8 Money Nails
Well, I guess this is one way to show off how much money you have. If you have an extra $100 bill lying around to do your nails with, you must be pretty loaded. But I think people might be forgetting that destroying currency is illegal… and this doesn’t even look that great. Talk about ‘showing off.’
#9 Stiletto Nails
Pointed nails look good to an extent. Don’t women already feel fierce enough without having to get these literal claws? Sure, you might make people think twice about approaching you, but how do you function in these? Even basic tasks like going to the washroom could be potentially hazardous.
#10 Spike Nails:
Then came the spiky nail trend which includes gluing spikes all over the place. When we see this nail trend, all we can think about is how dangerous these spikes are. The only positive thing about these nails is they would come in handy if you needed to protect yourself from a knife-wielding bandit. Just shove one spiky nail into your assailant’s eyes, and make a run for it!
#11 Cartoon Characters:
Unless you’re a total nerd (like me) cartoon nails are probably something you want to stay away from if you want to be taken fashionably serious. Although some people are totally for rocking the Adventure Time characters on each nail, this will definitely have people thinking you’re younger than you actually are.
#12 Caviar Nails
What might appear to be the perfect addition to any manicure is really a time bomb waiting to explode tiny beads all over everywhere and everything. Computer keyboards, phone cases, and between couch cushions are just a few of the places these terrible caviar balls will be found weeks after application.
Aside from their less-than-secure application, these particular multi-colored caviar balls resemble ice cream sprinkles more than anything else, and will leave the wearer looking extremely childish. Nothing is worse than a whimsical pattern gone wrong, and this is exactly it. Perhaps try the caviar balls on just one accent nail, if they are an absolute must, but before requesting a full-blown caviar manicure, please rethink age, career, and the thought to request this ridiculous manicure.
#13 Super Long Acrylic Nails
For years and years and years, people have been extending the length of their acrylic nails. At this point, it’s not even a bad trend anymore, it’s a down-right epidemic. The length poses so many questions: How is hair washed? The bathroom? How does that work? Even sleeping seems like it would be a challenge with super long acrylic nails. Not to mention the constant discomfort fingers must be in from supporting such freakishly lengthy nails. Imagine what it must feel like to break one of those babies off, or scratch one down a chalkboard, it has to be painful all the way to the elbow! The extended area gives artist an extra long canvas to create unique and egregious patterns – the perfect companion for this monstrous claws.
#14 3D nail art - Just NO!
Although this could look kind of cute, most of the time 3D nails are just overkill. People are taking what could be a classy trend and turning it into a mess. As long as it’s not too heavy and can be glued down, people are sticking objects to their nails and calling it a look.
#15 Long and Pointy - Bugle chips anyone?
Now this is just getting ridiculous. This person’s manicure could literally be considered a weapon.
The extra long nail trend has been around for years, but we really wish it would disappear forever. Having nails this long make life so much more difficult. Typing, texting and even driving a car would be a challenge. Extra long nails received some competition when stiletto nails gained in popularity. These nails look more like claws than stilettos. Anyone who comes within a few inches of these stiletto nails is guaranteed to end up getting scratched!
