Neighbors Raise $40,000 For Bullied Boy Who Knocked On Their Door Asking For Friends
A bullied boy probably didn't expect to become famous when he had the guts to ask his neighbors whether they knew anyone he might be friends with.
A young child who was having some difficulty making friends has shown that the internet can occasionally be a pretty good place.
After knocking on Brennan and Angel Ray's door and having the interaction recorded on their doorbell camera, Texas boy Shayden Walker gained instant online fame.
In the video that was uploaded to TikTok, Shayden was seen approaching his neighbor's door before becoming uneasy and turning away; nevertheless, 30 minutes later, he turned back.
The young person genuinely stated, "I need some friends really bad," as he asked his neighbors whether they knew any children between the ages of 11 and 12.
Shayden's age group lived at a nearby house, which Brennan pointed out, but the youngster said, "They're not my friends anymore because they're bullies to me."
The young boy then asked Brennan if he had any children. It turned out that he did, but his daughter, who was only two years old, could have been too young to replace Shayden as his new closest friend.
That didn't stop the child from telling Brennan that he "used to have a two-year-old sister," adding that he "loves two-year-olds" and that they were "just like the cutest things I have ever known."
Brennan agreed to say hello to Shayden if he saw him out and about even though he had no idea where Shayden may meet other youngsters to play with.
Shayden said goodbye to his neighbor and left respectfully, but Brennan thought it would be extremely lovely to do something nice for the young child.
He ultimately decided to create a GoFundMe, which is now closed to donations after raising more than $40,000, in order to buy Shayden and his family some pleasant stuff.
The goal of the fundraiser was to earn enough money to buy the youngster a "gaming system, school clothes, and hopefully some amusement park tickets," but given the tremendous donations received, it's likely that the boy's family was able to stretch their budget a little further.
The TikTok that Brennan released to demonstrate his conversation with Shayden has been viewed by more than 60 million people, and the comments section is jam-packed with people wishing the young man well.
Numerous individuals expressed their joy that he had made some new friends, while many others criticized his bullies for the manner they had treated him.
The family of Walker will receive all the money.
“Thank you all for your generosity and kindness! We expected to see support from this community but we’re shocked and amazed by how everyone’s shown up for Shayden,” the couple posted on the GoFundMe.
“We decided to turn off donations while we coordinate with his family, but all funds will stay in the GoFundMe account until then. We’ll keep you updated along the way. Thank you! #kindnessmatters”
