Police reportedly discovered Bassett and the victim inside an apartment in the Riverside neighborhood of the city.

She allegedly sustained "serious physical injuries," including a cracked vertebra, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to The Buffalo News, he stomped on her and hurt her.

Reports suggest from May 5 to May 7, 2019, Bassett held his unidentified girlfriend in the flat without her will. Further, the report adds that a similar occurrence occurred between April 19 and April 21, 2019, a few weeks earlier.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Bassett sexually assaulted the girl and removed her cellphone, preventing her from calling for help.

He allegedly "physically held the victim against her will by binding her to a chair and leaving her inside of a closet" during the April attacks.

The District Attorney said in the trial that Bassett "beat her into submission," according to the Buffalo News. The victim's eyes were reportedly swollen shut when cops found her.

According to Buffalo Police Detective Mark Costantino, the woman's injuries were "some of the worst I've seen in my career."

District Attorney John Flynn said in his statement, "This is one of the most horrific cases of intimate partner violence that has been prosecuted by my office. This defendant was found guilty for his crimes that involved physical imprisonment and sexual violence. I hope that this defendant serving maximum period of incarceration provides the victim with justice and allows her to continue to heal."
