Alexis Smith wanted this moment to 'eliminate unhealthy and abusive relationships'
Newly Crowned Pageant Queen Calls Out Her Abuser Who 'Sat In Audience' During Ceremony
This woman, who is a newly crowned pageant queen, recently went viral for bravely speaking against her abuser.
Alexis Smith, 25, also known as Miss Kansas, recently made headlines for two reasons.
First, for being crowned the new pageant winner, and second, for boldly speaking out against her abuser in the audience.
As a cardiothoracic ICU nurse, Alexis didn't shy away from speaking out against domestic violence, even with the world watching her.
During the ceremony, she addressed the audience directly, saying:
“My vision as the next Miss Kansas is to eliminate unhealthy and abusive relationships. Some of you out in this audience saw me very emotional because my abuser is here today."
She added: “But that’s not going to stop me from being on this Miss Kansas stage and from representing as the next Miss Kansas because I, and my community, deserve healthy relationships.”
She took the crowd by surprise who started cheering for her bravery.
She later posted the video from her ceremony on her socials, with the caption:
“On the night of Miss Kansas, my journey took an unexpected turn when someone I have been healing from tried to disrupt my peace."
“Instead of falling into silence, I chose to live out my vision for a better world. I took back the power — not just for myself, but for my dreams and everyone watching and listening.”
Her fans applauded her and poured the comment section with love and support.
Someone commented: “I could not love this anymore. You ARE an inspiration Miss Alexis Smith & Thank You for standing strong & true to yourself.”
Her speech received recognition from the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Smith further revealed to KSNW: “At the age of 14, I got in my first relationship, but it was also an abusive relationship that I was in until about 2018, 2019.
“It’s something that I’m still experiencing and dealing with today.”
She added: “And me, being a woman who needed that empowerment all my life, being a bystander to domestic violence, a victim, a survivor, and now an advocate as well as a young woman who is educationally driven, I have the opportunity not only to share my story on such a large scale but also go back to school.”
She was chosen to represent the Sunflower State at next year’s Miss America pageant, a platform she plans to use to further her advocacy against domestic violence.
Her story has resonated with many, inspiring others who have faced similar struggles.
Alexis's commitment to her cause and her ability to turn her pain into purpose has made her a beacon of hope and strength.
Her message is clear: no one should endure unhealthy and abusive relationships, and with courage and support, it is possible to reclaim one's power and live a life of dignity and respect.
As she prepares for the Miss America pageant, Alexis continues to be a voice for those who feel voiceless, proving that true beauty and strength lie in the courage to stand up for oneself and others.
