I can only imagine how tough it is being a woman in America. Take our female news anchors and public figures, for instance. They're constantly being criticized by how they look and what they're wearing; rarely ever for what they're saying or the merits of their work.
#1
From being fired for wearing heels to being called 'whores' for baring shoulders on television, we're a bit sick and tired of people commenting on the way women dress to do their job.
But this one takes this one takes the biscuit.
Earlier this week, Minnesota's KARE 11 news anchor Jana Shortal presented a segment on the tragic end to Jacob Wetterling's case (whose murderer has just confessed to 27 years after the crime).
During the segment, she was criticised for being disrespectful to the victim's family because of her choice to wear skinny jeans.
#2 And KARE 11 anchor Jana Shortal is a perfect example of this ridiculous double standard, when she reported on the tragic death of Jacob Wetterling.
A Star Tribune columnist, who goes by C.J., watched Shortal's report on Wetterling, and instead of focusing on the particulars of the story or critiquing her journalistic style, all the columnist had to say was that they thought her skinny jeans were "inappropriate".
C.J. wrote:
"[Jana] looked great from the waist up...[but her jeans were] inappropriate [and] downright jarring. Being hip in skintight pants while discussing this story was unseemly, perhaps disrespectful..."
#3 Before Jana even responded, there were tons of people who wanted to know what C.J.'s deal was.
#4 Shortal eventually got around to responding to C.J.'s criticism, and even though she didn't specifically name her, she completely shut her down.
