Oscar-winning star Nicole Kidman has never shied away from challenging roles, but even she admitted that some scenes pushed her to the limit while filming the movie Babygirl.

The film, released in 2024, was written and directed by Halina Reijn and is an erotic thriller that stands out as one of the more daring projects of Kidman’s career.

In the movie she plays Romy Mathis, a powerful chief executive officer who begins a complicated and secretive relationship with a young intern named Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.

The storyline leads to several intense and highly intimate scenes that became a major talking point when the movie was released.

The film quickly gained attention for the way it explored power, desire, and vulnerability between its characters.

Because of the emotional and physical intensity of the story, many scenes required a high level of trust between the cast and the filmmakers.

For Kidman, the experience pushed her into creative territory she had not fully explored before.

During an interview with The Sun while promoting the movie, the Australian actress spoke openly about how demanding the filming process became.

She described how performing those scenes repeatedly started to affect her over time.

"There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It's like, 'Don't touch me'," Kidman said.

"There were times when we were shooting where I was like, 'I don't want to orgasm any more. Don't come near me. I hate doing this. I don't care if I am never touched again in my life! I'm over it.'"

"It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout."

The comments highlighted just how physically and emotionally intense the filming experience had been for her.

The role required her to stay deeply connected to the character’s emotions throughout long shooting days.

Because of that, the atmosphere on set often felt very focused and demanding.

Actors sometimes describe similar situations when they work on projects that rely heavily on emotional vulnerability.

Even though the character of Romy spends much of the film navigating a world shaped by secrecy and desire, Kidman explained that she wanted to explore "an area" she had never explored before in her career.

"I'm always going, where have I not been? And what can I explore as a human being? And this was an area I'd never been."

Around the time the film was released, the actress also spoke with Vanity Fair about what it felt like to take part in such an unusual project.

During that conversation, the 58-year-old said it felt "very weird" to film scenes inspired by BDSM themes knowing that the final result would eventually be shown to audiences around the world.

"It's like, Golly, I'm doing this, and it's actually now going to be seen by the world. That's a very weird feeling. This is something you do and hide in your home videos. It is not a thing that normally is going to be seen by the world."

"I felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being."

Her comments offered a glimpse into the emotional complexity actors can experience when portraying deeply personal or intimate moments on screen.
