Doctors have been truly amazed after Catherine Howarth, who is of Nigerian heritage, gave birth to not one but two blue-eyed babies. The odds for this are said to be a million-to-one.
Nigerian Mum Is The Only Black Woman In The World To Give Birth To Two White Babies
Catherine is of Nigerian heritage, while her husband Richard, 37, is an engineer and is white English.
She stunned doctors in June 2014 when she gave birth to Jonah Howarth, who has fair skin and blue eyes.
And in March 2016, the 34-year-old beat million to one odds again when Sophia – who also has pale skin and blue eyes – was born.
She was stunned when the midwife handed her daughter Sophia and she was as white as her big brother.
Howard told the Daily Mail, When Jonah was born, a genetic specialist said he was a one-in-a-million baby.
He said it was extraordinary with my African background that I’d had a child with blue eyes and pale skin.
He calculated the possibility of it happening again was less than one in a million.
So when Sophia was born with white skin and blue eyes I was more than taken back with shock. It seems the odds of it happening twice are millions-to-one.
Catherine is of Nigerian descent with no white genes in her family.
Doctors believe Catherine had a dormant white gene that her family has carried throughout the generations, which has resulted in the two unique births.
Jonah’s stunning looks have since attracted the attention of five modeling agencies.
His little sister, now 10 months, is also following in her older brother’s footsteps. At just three weeks old, little Sophia has landed her first modeling job.
Prof Ian Jackson from the MRC Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh said
"if the couple goes on to have more children they could also be white."
