A new Netflix documentary on the 2023 ordeal debuted on the streaming platform on June 11
Former OceanGate Staffer Says CEO Ignored Warnings About Titan Sub Disaster Because He Wanted Fame
New details are surfacing about the tragic Titan submersible disaster, thanks to a revealing Netflix documentary that just dropped.
On June 11, Netflix released its highly awaited documentary called Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster, which dives deep into the events surrounding the 2023 incident.
People who've already seen the film are calling it “traumatizing,” especially after hearing about one unsettling detail—the eerie “popping” noises passengers likely heard from the sub right before it imploded.
The doomed dive included a group of high-profile passengers: OceanGate’s CEO Stockton Rush, billionaire adventurer Hamish Harding, deep-sea expert Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and Shahzada Dawood along with his 19-year-old son, Suleman.
Following this heartbreaking tragedy, an investigation revealed that the sub’s implosion happened because its carbon fiber hull suffered a catastrophic structural failure during the descent.

The documentary also features an interview with Bonnie Carl, the former director of human resources and finance at OceanGate. She’s been outspoken about her concerns with the sub and the issues that were ignored before that disastrous dive on June 18, 2023.
In the film, which currently has a 69 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes—Carl shares a shocking opinion about Stockton Rush, the late OceanGate CEO. She claims he ignored multiple red flags regarding the sub's safety.
Carl stated that the journey “should have never happened.” She went on to say about her former boss: "In my opinion, he clearly wanted fame. Stockton had his mind set. He was going to do this no matter what."
According to Carl, Rush had a deep admiration for tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. He seemed determined to carve out a legacy for himself in the same league as them.
"He referred to those guys as 'big swingin' d*cks' and he loved that term and used it all the time." Carl said, explaining how often Rush referenced and admired those two powerful entrepreneurs.
Backing up Carl’s perspective, engineering project manager Emily Hammermeister said Rush was absolutely fixated on reaching the Titanic. She explained that no matter what concerns were raised, nothing could change his mind.
Another former OceanGate engineer, Tony Nissen, echoed that sentiment in the eye-opening documentary. According to the New York Post, he said: "I worked for somebody that is probably a borderline clinical psychopath."
Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster is now available to stream on Netflix.
