The police are here to serve and protect the area. Sometimes they have no option but to use force when a person is getting too violent or when things get out of hand. It's not the ideal option, but sometimes it must be done.

When a 911 call was received at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officer Tim Purdy was the one dispatched to the job. It involved a high school student with autism who had a history of violent behavior.

It has been reported that the teenage boy was reportedly suicidal. When officer Purdy arrived at the scene, it was unclear what was going to happen to the teenager. Fortunately, things went incredibly well. Instead of using physical force to control the situation, the officer used his words.

The police officer sat on the ground next to the student and spoke to the boy. The touching moment was caught on camera and shared on the department's Facebook page. ‘In order to build a connection with the young man, Officer Purdy sat next to him on the ground, talked things through and even got him laughing,' the post read.

‘There's more to policing than making arrests and enforcing the law. Sometimes taking those extra little steps makes the biggest difference in someone's life,' it continued.

The Facebook photo received over 726,000 reactions and over 254,000 shares. The officer gave his thoughts on the event in a video you can watch below.

‘There are good officers out here,' he said in the clip. ‘When there is a situation involving their son or daughter that we can handle is appropriately without any injury or any harm coming to that individual or police officer.'
