Moving out of your parents' house is a step that almost everyone takes as soon as they become an adult and can afford to rent or arrange a place. However, it's another thing when your parents can't wait to kick you out of their house, making you feel like a burden as soon as you hit the age of 18. What should one do when such parents ask their child to move back in and get upset once the child refuses their offer?

A Reddit user u/Independent-Boot-789 shared his unusual story with the Am I The A-Hole community on Reddit. The 18-year old's parents never wanted a child, however, after his birth, they decided to raise him due to religious reasons. The emotionally distant parents provided financial support to their boy but also had a silent agreement with him that he would leave the house once he turned 18.

The OP further mentioned that he had been working since he was 13 years old and had saved enough just because he knew he had no other option but to move out of his parent's house after his 18th birthday.

A week before the boy's 18th birthday, the family sat down to discuss the 'moving out situation' with the son and to make sure that he was prepared.

Contrary to the plans of sharing an apartment with four other guys, the 18-year-old decided to accept a generous offer made by his friend's family and live in their basement for a reasonable price.

Soon after moving into his friend's house, the boy's father called him for dinner and asked him to move back in without having to pay the rent. The boy refused the offer for he liked the new, stress-free environment that he had found for himself. Even though he felt great in his new place, it made him guilty for refusing his parents as they got extremely upset by the child's refusal. The mom started crying and the dad started scolding him for reason that caused the Reddit community to fully support and respect the child's decision.

The boy's father scolded him and "said that their friends were excluding them because of the 'rumor' that they threw him out and another desi family had to take him in."

It was the friend's family who had probably spread the word regarding the situation causing the 18-year-old's parents to call him back and make the 'offer'.
