It's about time

YouTube was pretty quiet when it came to the controversy surrounding Logan Paul's video that showed a man who had committed suicide. They finally made a statement via their Twitter page a week after the video was uploaded.

The statement

The statement takes up five tweets and seems to try to empathize with those who were affected by the incident. They also go on to say how YouTube chose to deal with it, or actually how they chose not to deal with it.

Kavos is not surprised

British YouTuber, Kavos, responds to the Logan Paul video. He thinks that Logan Paul has finally done exactly what it takes to end his career.

More fans

Incredibly, Logan Paul's YouTube channel has gained over 40,000 more subscribers since making this despicable video. It just goes to show you how many people are fascinated by morbid scenes like the one from this video. And, even though the original video has been taken down, other YouTube accounts have uploaded the video back to the site.

Who is responsible?

YouTube is partly responsible for exposing millions of its users to some seriously distressing and traumatizing content. Anyway, YouTube started off their much-anticipated response to the issue by addressing the frustrations of their viewers. Before this, there had been crickets coming from YouTube.

Upset?

So, they kick off their statement by saying that they understand and have the right to be frustrated at their silence. We do deserve to know what is going on and what will be done to remedy this situation and what they will do to prevent future incidents. Then, they go on to assure the public that they too were upset over the video in question.

Mimicking the offender.

It was ironic that their next tweet repeated the same words spoken by Logan Paul in the video, "Suicide is not a joke." However, while Paul claimed it was not a joke, he is seen laughing and cracking jokes in the moments after his discovery.

Acted accordingly?

YouTube does go on to say that Logan Paul did violate the community guidelines for the site and that they acted accordingly. We beg to differ! The content had somehow been approved by the site's moderation team even though the guidelines clearly state, "it’s not okay to post violent or gory content that’s primarily intended to be shocking, sensational, or disrespectful." Plus, YouTube has received flack in the past for engaging in favoritism. Critics of the site have said that YouTube ignores a lot of violations from their top content creators because they are making them a ton of money.

Who deleted the original video?

Even though the video received a massive amount of backlash and was flagged by many YouTube accounts, YouTube did not remove the video. Logan Paul was the one to take the video down less than 24 hours after he posted it, but not before it gained 6 million views. Before he deleted it, it almost topped YouTube's trending list...a list that YouTube is personally responsible for creating.

What are the next steps?

YouTube's statement says that they are "looking at further consequences" for Logan Paul, who has over 15 million subscribers. The users of the site, who have no affiliation with YouTube, seem to have already made up their mind as to what the punishment should be for Paul.

The petition

More than 400,000 people have signed a petition circulating on Change.org demanding that Logan Paul be immediately banned from YouTube because of his terrible indiscretion. While Paul has made two public apologies, people are still in shock about his decision to post such an appalling video for his own gain.

YouTube claims they will update the public on the steps they will be taking to ensure a video like this is never circulated again. It should also come as no surprise that Logan Paul still has his channel and is not likely to have it taken away any time soon.
