Lacey Buchanan was 23-years-old when she got the amazing new that she was pregnant. She and her husband of 2 years could not have been more excited. And that excitement only continued when they were told it was a boy!

But 19 weeks into her pregnancy, doctors discovered something heartbreaking. There was something wrong with their baby, and no one could figure out what. On February 18, 2011, Lacey traveled to Vanderbilt to give birth not knowing whether or not they'd come back with a child.

Christian, their sweet baby, came out screaming, but there were many things that were abnormal. The couple was devastated. Having no idea how to raise a child with such disabilities, life would immediately become harder.

She also struggled with judgmental stares and whispers from people they passed. People would ask 'What's wrong with your kid?', with one woman even telling her she was 'horrible' for not aborting him.

As Lacey struggled to stay strong, it was Christian who fought back.
When people would stare at him, he would begin to giggle and they would start to giggle too.

She also says she knows she did the right thing not to abort him as he is 'the love of my life'.

Those born with the condition must undergo a series of operations due to medical problems associated with it, including breathing, eating, speaking and hearing difficulties.
