Contreras and his twin brother Rodrigo were born with several physical and genetic abnormalities. Unfortunately, Rodrigo passed away in infancy. 

These mysterious disorders are thought to be responsible not only for Contreras's exceptionally deep voice but also for his remarkable height of 7 feet 8 inches.

The profound depth of Contreras's voice was initially a private matter within his family and local community. However, this changed when they were featured in a TV news report for the Guatevisión program Sin Reservas. 

During the filming, the narrator provided some background information about Contreras's condition, shedding light on the unique aspects of his life.

The voice over said: “The twins Rodrigo and Javier in Guatemala would be born with serious physical problems which led to an uncontrollable growth of their entire body.”

“The twins faced many strange diseases, but Rodrigo was born with a large rib cage and died when he was 1 and a half years old. Meanwhile, Javier continues to fight for his life.”

Contreras's mother clarified that both he and his twin were born with an 'unknown syndrome,' leading to numerous challenges right after birth.

Several months after his brother's passing, Contreras began exhibiting symptoms that caused his body to grow disproportionately and twisted his bones.

His father explained that: “There are no similar cases around the world. There were ten that looked like similar cases but still not the same. This makes the situation very dire.”

Against expectations, Contreras, though initially believed to have a short life expectancy in early childhood, managed to defy the odds. He not only survived but also led a relatively normal life with his parents.

Contreras was then filmed explaining his duties around his home, stating: “Well, here at home I set the table, I clean the table, do all the clothes, I fold and iron them and eventually I organise them.”

Due to his size, Contreras needs a specially designed bed and requires the assistance of a medical caregiver for movement.

Despite these challenges, Contreras's grandmother emphasizes that he is "very understanding and intelligent," and they mutually take care of each other.
