A recently surfaced video from The Ellen DeGeneres Show is causing discomfort among viewers, as the host tries to use alcohol to probe into Mariah Carey's pregnancy rumors.

Even over a decade later, the clip is still receiving criticism, particularly in light of a 2020 report that exposed allegations of a toxic work environment on the show's set.

The series ran for 20 years before ending this year, and former employees have accused the show of misconduct behind the scenes.

Carey has stated clearly, nevertheless, that she dealt with her own "uncomfortable" moment in front of the camera.

The actor made an appearance on the show in 2008, following her marriage to Nick Cannon and the start of rumors about their expecting baby.

When DeGeneres brought up the topic on the program, Carey attempted to immediately put an end to it by remarking, "Don’t discuss that."

However, the host tried to avoid asking Carey directly if she was pregnant by suggesting a toast with champagne instead.

“I can’t believe you did this to me, Ellen,” Carey said on the show.

“This is peer pressure. What Ellen is doing, this is peer pressure.”

After Carey reluctantly took a tiny drink of the champagne, DeGeneres said, "You're pregnant!"

While the audience applauded and laughed at the moment, Carey made it obvious that she was still unwilling to talk about the matter by pointing out, "I didn't say that."

Although Carey was expecting at the time, she tragically lost her baby following the interview.

She and Cannon went on to have twins together before their 2014 breakup.

In an interview with Vulture in 2020, Carey reflected on her experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, calling it "very uncomfortable."

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say," the singer said. "And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage.

"[There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”

Carey stated, "I didn't enjoy that moment," but she also insisted that she didn't want to "throw anyone that's already being thrown under any proverbial bus."

Internet users have criticized the embarrassing moment in the still-available tape from The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"Even if Mariah wasn’t pregnant, you shouldn’t pressure someone to drink," one viewer commented after watching the clip.

Another wrote: "Mariah literally couldn’t win because even if she got up and left the interview people still would’ve known she was pregnant. What a horrible position to put someone in for extra views. Gross."
