The live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been dubbed "backward" by Peter Dinklage.

Disney has had great success in recent years turning its animated films into live-action remakes.

Consider Cruella, which was released in 2021 and is a remake of the 101 Dalmatians series. It has proven to be a huge success for Disney fans.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be the next movie to be remade, but it appears that this one won't be as well accepted.

The adaptation, according to actor Peter Dinklage, is "backward," and it appears that others agree.

One social media user said: “There are at least 20 movies made on this character. Not including comics. Appearances like once upon a time or Shrek. Honestly. I’d like a new story. There are plenty including the one that’s making everyone annoyed. It’s time for new original stories. Something fresh.”

While another wrote: “Cinderella was good. Beauty & the Beast was good. Jungle Book was eh. Aladdin was terrible. Mulan I didn’t watch it because I didn’t want it ruined. It sounds like this one I’m not gonna watch either.”

“Everyone has their opinion. There are also actors who are little people who are upset that potential roles could be taken away. Everyone’s perspective is different,” a third added.

Not everyone concurs with him, though; “K wait the man who played Hagrid wasn’t a giant.. the actor who played the genie wasn’t blue nor was he really a genie. The actors who played the dwarfs in Lord of the Rings weren’t dwarfs either.. what is he actually upset about????”

Dinklage declared the remake to be "backward" in an edition of the podcast WTF with Marc Maron.

He said it in relation to the casting of Rachel Zegler as Snow White in the remakes.

“I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White,” Dinklage said on the podcast, The Guardian reports.

“You’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”

“You’re progressive in one way but you’re still making that f***ing backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave,” he continued.

Questioning what they are doing, Dinklage added: “Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

“They were so proud of that, and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing but I’m just like, ‘What are you doing?’”

Dinklage continued by saying that he would have been "all in" if the remake had a "cool, progressive spin."

Disney reacted to the claim in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to a Disney spokesperson, they are "taking a different approach."

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community,” they said.

“We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”
