In a bizarre turn of events, this home in Italy got more than they bargained for one afternoon when 8.5kgs of cocaine came crashing through their roof. Gives a whole new meaning to flying high and crashing low.
A smuggling operation was botched when an Italian flight instructor Francesco Rizzo dropped cocaine onto someone’s home in Sardinia.
The Class A drugs were meant to fall in the hands of smugglers but found themselves in the home of a neighbour who was thoroughly confused by the entire situation.
In fact, the police at first were also puzzled by the theatrics of it all. Soon after the drugs fell through the sky, the plane disappeared from radar for 20 minutes.
It is estimated that the 8.5 kgs of cocaine would be worth £7 million.
Investigators discovered through GPS tracking and CCTV that the plane had made similar voyages towards different villages in the area.
It took 3 months to finally catch the high-flying culprit and arrested him as he was about to get on a flight to Germany.
Investigations regarding the larger drug network involved are still ongoing.
