Popular Franchises That Created Movies That Fans ABSOLUTELY HATED

No one liked the Green Lantern movie.

The character really deserved better than a cheap WB/DC attempt at copying the Sam Raimi Spider-Man franchise of scriptwriting. The film moves along way too fast and it's pacing feels very much like two different films. Reynolds wasn't terrible in his performance, but a weak script certainly didn't do anyone in this film any favors. The film holds a score of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, which shocked many people during it's 2011 release.

The Cat in the Hat was like something out of a nightmare.

After the success of the Jim Carrey lead "Grinch" film, a majority of fans were hoping that could've lead the charge into turning beloved Dr. Seuss books into memorable live action films lead by well known comedians. Welp, that certainly wasn't the case for the Mike Myers Cat in the Hat film. Honestly, it's also considered to be one of Mike's worst films next to "the Love Guru." The film holds a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dragonball Z fans absolutely despised Dragonball Evolution.

Oh boy, many people cried foul and were both in disgust and laughter when fans of the Dragonball Z franchise went to go see "Dragonball Evolution" in theaters in 2009. For a film that began it's development in 2002, it certainly lost it's way. Even Dragonball creator Toriyama revealed that he felt the Hollywood producers did not listen to him and his ideas and suggestions, and that the final version was not on par with the original Dragon Ball series. The film has a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spawn was absolutely terrible.

Comic book sales in the mid-'90s got a gigantic boost in sales thanks in part to Todd McFarlane and IMAGE Comics' successful Spawn series. Now, if only they could've translated what made people fall in love with the stories into a comparable film adaptation. Spotty CGI and bad acting has the film reeking of a typical mid-late '90s comic book movie before the golden age hit in the early 2000's. The film has a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.

People hated the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films

There's no way in the world we would ever be talking about the beloved 1990 film and sequels that followed it. While the third film in 1993 was a pretty bad movie, nothing was as horrible as what Michael Bay's team created in 2014. A poorly put together story that clearly didn't care about the characters that were they were based on. This film currently holds a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Avatar: The Last Airbender almost ended M. Night Shyamalan's career.

Oh, M. Night Shyamalan, what happened to you? The once-great director of "The Sixth Sense" could have redeemed himself with "The Last Airbender," based on the very popular "Avatar" cartoon series. Instead, he gave fans even more reasons to complain about his lack of a midas touch with horrible dialogue, stiff acting, and Asian characters played by white actors. The film has an incredibly low 6% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original Transformers was good, but all the sequels have been terrible.

Sure, maybe everyone wasn't as satisfied with the first Transformers movie in 2007 but everyone had hope that they'd get it right in future sequels. Nope, in fact they've only progressively gotten worse. People will often use the Michael Bay franchise name as an example of when a film is long, loud, filled with action but lacks a thoughtful well-written story. The first film currently holds a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes while the fourth installment sits at 18%...the lowest score yet.

Jonah Hex was a train wreck from start to finish.

Jonah Hex may not be as much of a well known name like Batman, Superman or Iron Man....but he is still a popular character in the world of comic book lore and certainly deserved much better than this train wreck. Oh, look this is also Megan Fox's third appearance on this list. Go figure. This film has a 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Superman could have done so much more.

Okay now, before you start you get nerd angry on us sit back and think for a minute. Why is it only that the '70s were the only decade to make a perfect Superman film? When it was revealed the man who directed the Dark Knight Trilogy would be helping writing a new movie about Krypton's last son, people were beyond excited, but by the time "Man of Steel" came out and audiences were exposed to yet ANOTHER retelling of the origin that this time concentrated on weird mood and dry colors, fans just weren't having any of it. Not to mention the killing of General Zod left a horrible taste in many fans' mouths. The film has a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Catwoman was just horrible.

This movie in it's current form should just never have existed. WB could've really TRIED to have made a Catwoman story that tells an empowering story of a female owning her right to be heard and standing up for herself...instead we get Halle Berry in easily the worst Catwoman on screen costume and a film that looks like it was shot with a Lifetime Channel budget. The film holds a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest score on this list.

The Spirit totally botched everything.

Depending on how you look at it, "the Spirit" is either a terribly written, acted and directed film by an out of touch comic book writer whose best days are clearly behind him...or it's a fun movie to make fun of with a bunch of friends. This franchise certainly deserved a better adaptation. The film currently holds a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 caused sony to make a deal with Marvel because it was so bad.

This film is the clear indication of what happens when too many cooks spoil the broth and you're left with a crud of a film that thinks of itself as a franchise first and not as a decent film. The first film in the rebooted series left fans a little cold, but nowhere near as bad the follow-up. The film's critical and box-office reception is more than likely the reason this reboot is already getting "rebooted" again. It currently holds a 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, the third highest on this list.
