Since luring the kid into his vehicle over the school holidays, a predator confessed to carrying out a horror assault on a 12-year-old schoolgirl, slipping her the opioid ice and raping her.

Since pleading guilty to charges of aggravated indecent assault and selling a banned substance to a child in a western Sydney court on Thursday, Brett James Callaghan, 38, faces up to 20 years in jail.

On April 28, last year, Callaghan took the schoolgirl from a Thornleigh park in the city's north-west to his parents' acreage in Dural at about 3.30 pm.

After failing to reach her parents at a Westfield shopping centre as scheduled, the girl was reported missing to police at 5.30 p.m. that day.

The girl's phone was switched off at the time of her disappearance, according to the court.

Meanwhile, a friend with whom she had spent the majority of the day had left her alone, knowing that she would be met by a second friend.

The victim was then subjected to a horrific nine-and-a-half-hour ordeal in which Callaghan sexually assaulted her and gave her an ice pipe to smoke, according to the court.

Following an extensive search, police arrested Callaghan at his granny flat, located behind his parents' home, just after 1.15 a.m. the next day.

On Thursday, Callaghan appeared in front of Parramatta Local Court Magistrate Peter Feather via video link.

As a lawyer entered pleas on his behalf, he was dressed in prison attire and cradled his arms. 'Thank you, Your Honour, thank you,' he expressed his gratitude.

Five of Callaghan's 12 charges were dropped, including the charge of kidnapping and detaining the girl.

He admitted three more charges on a 'form one basis, which means they will be added to the length of his overall sentence.

Due to negotiations between prosecutors and his lawyers over the agreed facts of the case, it has taken almost a year to get to this point.

Last year, a police officer testified in court that the girl was embarrassed and traumatized by her ordeal.

'When I first met her she was traumatized by what had occurred,' Detective Lauren Seretis said.

'Since that time she has still been upset and traumatized from the events of that date.'

As a result, her parents had banned her from watching television, the court was told at the time.

Since his arrest, Callaghan has been denied bail. His case will be heard in District Court next month for sentencing.
