'Sleeping Prince' Passes Away After Two Decades In Coma Following Tragic Car Accident
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal has passed away, bringing an end to a heartbreaking chapter that lasted two decades.
The Saudi royal, who was just a teenager at the time, was involved in a devastating car accident in London back in 2005. Since then, the now 36-year-old had remained in a coma, unable to fully recover from his injuries.
The crash caused severe brain trauma and internal bleeding. While doctors worked quickly to treat him, sadly, he never regained consciousness despite every effort.
For the past 20 years, Prince Al-Waleed had been kept alive through life support systems. He spent all those years at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia, surrounded by care and hope.
Over the years, many came to refer to him as the 'Sleeping Prince', a name that symbolized both his condition and the deep affection held for him. After two long decades in a coma, it was confirmed that he has now passed away.
The news was shared publicly on July 19. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, issued a heartfelt statement confirming the sad news.

He wrote, as per Mirror Online: "With hearts believing in Allah will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today."
Before his passing, one of the last signs of life came in 2019 when Prince Al-Waleed was seen making small movements. He reportedly lifted a finger and moved his head slightly, a moment that brought a glimmer of hope at the time.
According to Roya News, the prince showed very limited awareness through subtle gestures like finger lifts and faint head movements. These small actions, though not signs of full consciousness, were seen as meaningful by those close to him.
Following the news of his death, many people have taken to social media to express their sorrow and offer condolences.
The Global Imams Council issued a message of sympathy, stating: "The Global Imams council extends its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Adbulaziz, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the esteemed Royal Family, on the passing of His Royal Highness Pirnce Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle that lasted nearly twenty years following a tragic accident."
One individual shared a message online: "May Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled, Rest In Peace. Deepest sympathies to his loved ones."
Another person added heartfelt words, saying: "Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world in general."
And someone else expressed their grief with a simple note: "May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace."
Reports suggest that the funeral prayer for Prince Al-Waleed will be held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, located in Riyadh.
