Prince Harry has officially changed his country of residence from the UK to the US, a move that comes as the American government faces increasing pressure to release his visa records after he disclosed past drug use in his memoir.
In a shocking move, Prince Harry has updated his official residence status, marking a formal end to his residential ties with the UK.
He has updated his records in the UK, indicating that he now lives permanently outside the country.
According to Companies House filings under the name 'Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex', his 'New Country/State Usually Resident' is now listed as the USA.
This change in residency status occurs as the US government is being pressured to make public Harry's visa records.
This follows a lawsuit by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington DC, which the Express reported is seeking access to his file.
The lawsuit by The Heritage Foundation was prompted by Harry's candid admissions of his past drug use, raising questions about whether he might have misrepresented himself on his visa application or received special treatment from US officials.
These revelations came from his 2023 memoir 'Spare', which was published three years after his US visa was granted.
A judicial decision has recently been made that the examination of Harry's visa documents will be conducted privately.
Additionally, Harry has removed his UK residence from the official documents of his eco-tourism non-profit organization, Travalyst.
Now residing in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, the Duke of Sussex has filed a notice with Companies House concerning Travalyst, which he founded four years earlier.
Initially, when Travalyst was established, the UK was listed as Harry’s place of residence in Companies House records.
This has now been updated to show his current address in the US.
There had been some uncertainty about whether Harry would continue his association with Travalyst, especially after the organization announced it was entering an "incredibly exciting" new phase last year, which did not mention his involvement.
Despite this, Harry made an unexpected appearance at Travalyst’s annual general meeting, speaking via video call from his home in Montecito.
During his speech, the Duke emphasized the need for action to preserve the "beating heart" of the travel industry and urged tourists to take care of the environments they visit.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 and subsequently relocated to the United States.
They now make their home in Montecito, California, with their son Prince Archie, aged four, and their daughter Princess Lilibet, aged two.
Following their move, last year saw Harry and Meghan relinquish their UK residence at Frogmore Cottage, effectively leaving them without a permanent base in Britain.
