The little possum's resemblance to the beloved Pokémon character Pikachu has made it an instant online sensation, with many people marveling at its cuteness and unique appearance.

According to Dr. Stephen Reinisch, the veterinarian who treated the possum, the yellow-colored marsupial was found on the ground after apparently sliding from her mother's back.

At only five months old, she was brought into the clinic for treatment and has been in their care ever since. Despite her initial shyness, Dr. Reinisch reports that the possum is in good health and good spirits.

"She was a bit shy at first, as expected, given the strange situation she had found herself in, but was otherwise in good spirits and health.", Dr. Stephen Reinisch said.

The possum's unusual golden coloration is due to a genetic mutation that results in a low level of melanin, the pigment responsible for its usual hue.

While the golden variant is extremely rare, common brushtail possums are prevalent throughout Australia, with an estimated population of around 20 million.

Despite their abundance, possums are often considered pests by some people due to their habit of eating fruit from gardens and making noise at night.
