The actress, known for her roles in "Parks and Recreation" and "The Social Network," is just one of seven children fathered by the late producer Quincy Jones. She once shared that her experience with their father was quite different from her siblings', but they all found success in their own ways.
While Rashida Jones is probably the most recognized of Quincy Jones' children, her sisters and brother have also paved their own paths in various industries, despite the way they were brought up.
For example, Kidada Jones made a big impact in the fashion industry, while Quincy Jones III took after their father in the entertainment world.
Additionally, Kenya Jones has walked the runways for some of the top fashion brands.
Meanwhile, three of Quincy's other children chose a quieter life away from the public eye, even though they tried entertainment for a while.
Let’s get to know more about Rashida and her siblings!
Rashida Jones: An Actress & the Most Famous of 7 Children
Rashida is the youngest daughter of actress Peggy Lipton and Quincy, who passed away at 91 on November 3, 2024.
She was born on February 25, 1976, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Bel Air.
Despite the privilege, the actress has admitted that her family still faced challenges due to her parents' mixed-race marriage.
However, Rashida credits her parents for helping her find her voice. They encouraged confidence from an early age.
She also acknowledges that, unlike her older siblings, she was lucky enough to experience more of her father’s presence at home while growing up.
The actress shared:
"My dad was a different parent to each one of them. I think my older sister would say he was never around. I have siblings who grew up in Sweden, when my dad and their mom got divorced, and they came to live with us eventually, but my dad was around a lot for me."
Kidada Jones: A Model Who Dated Tupac Shakur
Rashida's older sister, Kidada, was born on March 22, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. They share both parents and were raised with Reformed Jewish traditions.
Kidada faced a lot of challenges as a child, especially fitting in with her peers. By the time she was 15, she had been expelled from 11 different schools. Things only started looking up when she began working with designer Tommy Hilfiger at age 19.
While she explored other areas like acting, her most notable work was in fashion.
Kidada contributed to prestigious magazines such as Elle and Vogue and even styled celebrities like the late Michael Jackson.
One notable aspect of her life was her relationship with Tupac Shakur, which lasted several months before his tragic death.
Kenya Kinski Jones: Another Successful Model
Kenya is Rashida’s youngest sibling. Born on February 9, 1993, in Los Angeles, her mother is German actress and model Nastassja Kinski, who was dating Quincy at the time. Besides her six paternal half-siblings, Kenya has two more half-siblings from her mother’s side, including Sonja Kinski.
Kenya reportedly graduated with a bachelor of arts in Journalism from Loyola Marymount University in 2015. Still, much of her career has been on runways for famous fashion houses like Chanel, where she made her debut.
She was discovered by photographer Bruce Weber, who had worked with her mother and encouraged her to model.
Kenya later signed with agencies such as The Lions and Ford Models, Paris, and appeared in multiple fashion magazines.
Quincy Jones III: A Producer
Quincy Delight, Rashida’s only brother, was born on December 23, 1968, to Swedish mother Ulla Andersson and was raised in Stockholm.
He followed in his father’s footsteps and entered the entertainment industry.
From an early age, Quincy Delight developed a love for hip-hop, showing it by joining break-dancing tours.
He was introduced to music production at 13 when he got his first drum machine.
At 16, he moved to New York to pursue his career in music production.
Even though his father was a well-known producer, Quincy Delight worked hard to make a name for himself.
He attended Berklee College of Music to deepen his knowledge of studio technology and later collaborated with prominent artists like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube.
Martina Jones: A Photographer
Martina is one of Rashida's older sisters. She shares the same mother as Quincy Delight, and they both grew up in Sweden after their parents' divorce in 1975.
During her late teens, Martina returned to the U.S. and started studying dance.
Eventually, she followed her mother’s path and took up modeling, a career choice seen in several of her siblings.
When her time on the runway came to an end, she transitioned into photography.
Although she didn’t reach the same level of fame as her younger sisters, she still built a respectable reputation in the industry.
Rachel Jones: A Veterinarian
Rachel is another of Rashida's older siblings.
She was born in 1963 from Quincy’s relationship with Carol Reynolds, following his separation from his first wife, Jeri Caldwell.
Her mother was a professional dancer, but Rachel was the only sibling who chose a different path.
Instead of following in the footsteps of her parents, she pursued a career in veterinary medicine to help animals.
She earned her veterinary degree from the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 and later opened her own animal hospital in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles.
Jolie Jones: An Activist
Jolie, the eldest sibling of Rashida, was born to Quincy and his first wife, Jeri.
While she didn’t make a big name for herself in modeling, it was still part of her career in her early days.
She began modeling at 15 with Ford Models in New York. Later, she explored singing and writing but found her true calling in activism.
Jolie’s goal is to raise awareness about the health risks associated with exposure to radio frequencies from everyday devices like cell phones and Wi-Fi routers.
Her activism is motivated by her own experience living with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity.
