One Reddit user tells how he felt when he woke up during a surgery

A user on Reddit shared with everyone his horrific story where he accidentally woke up in the middle of a surgery.

The user u/Doge_Ram was getting his surgery for a collapsed lung. It was a life-threatening surgery and needed to be done quickly.

Doge_Ram wrote that they ‘had about a 75% collapse and was more or less in a life-threatening situation, so the doctors had to treat me relatively quickly.'

The doctors inserted the tube 30 minutes late

To keep things fast, the patient was put in an emergency room rather than an operating room and administered ketamine.

In the surgery, the doctors were supposed to insert the tube into the collapsed lung within 10 minutes but instead, it took 45 minutes which resulted in the patient waking up.

The patient heard the surgeon saying they didn't give him enough ketamine

The Reddit user wrote;

So basically, I wake up and shoot my head up, look down, and see these surgical plier clamps wedging the side of my ribcage open and the surgeon to my right wearing bloody ass gloves. The surgeon to my right, the assisting doctor to my left, and about 5 other people (nurses and maybe radiologists) watching my procedure go down.

The surgeon stops for a second, turns towards everyone, and says: ‘we didn’t give him enough ketamine’. I particularly recall this student nurse at the foot of my bed looking like she just saw a ghost. To be fair I probably looked possessed.

The patient, who had the energy to ask the doctor how much more time would it take, was told the operation was almost done.  But it was not true as the poor Reddit user actually felt the surgeon ‘cutting away the muscle, and the pleura to expose the chest cavity. During the entire surgery, the patient passed out and then woke up twice.

He decided not to sue the hospital so that he could get over the painful memory

The user told how he still couldn't process what happened and under shock. He wanted to sue the hospital but it would only prolong the matter and the user just wants to erase this memory.

People couldn't believe the horrific experience the user went through. Some expressed their shock while others wrote their own similar experiences.
