Remember Disaster Girl?

In 2004, Dave Roth took a picture of his daughter in front of a burning house. It later went viral.

Award-Winning Meme

In November 2007, he submitted it to the "JPG" magazine "Emotion Capture" photo contest and named it "Firestarter." The photo won, and Dave received $100 as a reward, but he hadn't yet told his daughter. Instead, he nonchalantly handed it to her. It was at this point that the image made it's way online.

Making History

The magazine shared the photo on its website and it took off from there. People began photoshopping her onto other disastrous events, like the Hindenburg explosion and the Titanic, among many others. No one could get enough of the adorable young girl's mischievous look.

Most of the memes referenced the girl's evil-looking smile.

Many laughs were had.

Zoe Roth Now

Today, Zoe is just an average teen girl. She studies hard in school, takes a few college classes, and is fluent in Chinese. "I'd love for the meme to help me get into or pay for college somehow," Zoe says. "But I ultimately want people to know me for me." Like many children that were thrust into fame or celebrity status at such a young age, Zoe is just trying to be as normal as possible these days, and we can't blame her!

We'll leave their family alone, but it's great to get some background on this meme.
