Remember the backlash around the comedy film No Hard Feelings, where Jennifer Lawrence played a woman paid by the parents of a shy adult virgin to sleep with him? It sounded like a wild movie plot at the time, but Saurora Grace says real-life situations can be much closer to that than many people would expect.

Saurora, 31, has worked as a sex surrogate for three years and says she has been hired more than 500 times. Her work often centers on helping people who feel scared, blocked, or shut out when it comes to intimacy.

Sex surrogates are also the people seen on Channel 4's Virgin Island, where they work with adult virgins who want to move past fear and build comfort with physical closeness. In some cases, that support can include sexual acts as part of the process.

Speaking to The Sun, Saurora said her goal is to help clients face fears around intimacy or experience intercourse in a world that, in her view, often denies them pleasure. Her clients include both men and women, and their ages range from 21 to 80.

"It might sound strange but I got into this line of work after my beloved mum lost her long battle with alcoholism in 2022," she said.

Saurora Grace said many of her clients were disabled, and that in many cases she'd been hired by their parents Instagram/@saurorasoull

"Her heartbreaking death pushed me to want to help people. Losing my mum fundamentally reshaped the way I understood life, the body and human connection."

"It made me realise how often people deny themselves intimacy, pleasure and honesty until it's too late. And it pushed me towards work that helps others reconnect with those things."

She said a session with her can last around three hours. During a first session, she would often give the client a massage, while a second session "may progress to oral sex" if both people feel ready and comfortable with that next step.

From there, Saurora said she may consider "trying intercourse" if the client feels safe and at ease. She added that not every client wants to move at the same pace, and some do not want to wait that long before taking that step.

Saurora said: "Many were born with a disability and were still virgins, or they had been left with life-transforming injuries, such as paralysis, after an accident and don't have a partner to have sex with."

"Others are able-bodied but could be in a sexless relationship or be a real-life 40-year-old virgin. Just over 90 percent of disabled people are sexually active, but many are still often treated by society as asexual."

The sex surrogate said she takes pride in helping people "explore their sexuality in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space." She also explained that, in many cases, it is the parents of her clients who first reach out to her to ask about her services.

Some of those parents have adult children with disabilities, and they want them to have the chance to experience sex in the same way other people their age might. Saurora said part of her aim is to show that disabled people can still want, need, and enjoy a healthy sex life.

Her work does draw criticism. Saurora said a past relationship ended because of her job, and she has been told she would not find anyone who loved her because of it. Still, she believes many people would think differently if they understood the effect her work can have on clients who have felt unseen or left out for years.
