Selena Gomez handled the question about her billionaire status with the same grace you'd expect from a queen like Clarisse in The Princess Diaries.
Selena Gomez has shared her thoughts on reaching billionaire status, and it's clear she's taking it in stride.
The 32-year-old has certainly come a long way from her early days on The Wizards of Waverly Place, which premiered 17 years ago. Feeling old yet?
For the first time, Selena Gomez has been included on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, and what an entrance.
According to the outlet, Gomez is now worth an incredible $1.3 billion, landing her among some of the wealthiest in the world.
Her wealth doesn't just come from her acting career, though, with her recent role in Only Murders in the Building adding to her success.
She’s also built a massive following on Instagram, becoming the most followed woman on the platform last year.
And of course, there’s her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, which has contributed massively to her fortune.
Rare Beauty, which she launched in 2020, accounts for a big chunk of her wealth.
In fact, 81 percent of her fortune comes from her stake in the business, making her one of the youngest self-made billionaires to appear on Bloomberg's list.
Stacy Jones, the founder and CEO of LA-based agency Hollywood Branded, told Bloomberg that Gomez is “not just a pop star,” but a “multifaceted businesswoman with diverse income streams contributing to her impressive net worth.”
Investor Brent Saunders, who is involved in Gomez’s 'mental fitness ecosystem' Wondermind, added: “You've got a real role model of how a celebrity can use their influence and expertise to both do good and create good business. Selena epitomizes that.”
During a red carpet interview, Gomez was asked how she feels about hitting billionaire status.
Channeling her inner Queen Clarisse from The Princess Diaries, she responded with “Oh Goodness” before saying: “I'm very grateful. I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to people who buy the products.”
“They're the ones that made this dream of mine come true, so I'm really, really honored and just happy.”
She shared a similar thought when speaking with Time about Rare Beauty:
“I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I'll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty.”
“I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that's it.”
One Twitter user noted: “shes truly a inspiration. came from nothing and worked HARD.”
And as another fan put it: “What an iconic woman.”
