A thug threatened the life of a newborn child by allowing it to consume cocaine when he was supposed to be watching the child.

At a residence in Rattray, Perthshire, Goe Wheeler, 30, permitted a small amount of the class A drug to be consumed by the two-month-old child.

Wheeler appeared in Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted to the crime.

He admitted, "culpably and recklessly causing the child to ingest cocaine to the danger of his life" at the start of December 2020.

Wheeler's lawyer, Michael O'Neill, officially entered a guilty plea on behalf of his client, and sheriff David Hall freed Wheeler on bail.

According to fiscal deputy Michael Dunlop, he did not have enough time to write a narrative to read to the court because the guilty plea was accepted on Wednesday.

It is said that the incident was discovered after the child's mother noticed he was ill and medical tests revealed that cocaine was present in his system.

The Crown has accepted Wheeler's not guilty plea to a second charge of possessing ecstasy on December 11, 2020. Wheeler is from Myrtle Park in Blairgowrie.

Sheriff Hall delayed punishment so that social work reports and an evaluation of a restriction of liberty order could be completed.

Wheeler was cited for performing 80 hours of unpaid community service earlier this year after being caught with a knife in public.

Two days after getting into a heated argument with his partner over their dogs, Wheeler was discovered carrying the knife.

He acknowledged yelling and cursing at the woman at his house on July 4 of last year in a threatening or aggressive manner.

He also admitted using a lock knife at the Rattray Community Hub on July 6 without a valid reason or permission.

Wheeler claimed that he had just come from a camping vacation and had forgotten the knife was with him.
