An American Pie actor alleged that if the movie were to be released right now, a notorious moment from the teen blockbuster would be a "problem."

The statement was made in a conversation with Page Six by Shannon Elizabeth, who played Nadia in the 1999 comedy film.

Elizabeth was referring to a scene in which the male protagonists of the movie are filming the foreign exchange student Nadia as she gets ready in her bedroom.

Nadia is unfortunately caught on camera pleasuring herself, and the footage is subsequently shown to her entire school.

Nadia is sent back to the Czech Republic when the video is shared, but the boys who recorded and publicized the video were not punished.

Reflecting on the scene, Elizabeth said: "If this had come out after the #MeToo movement, there would definitely be a problem. I think that it would have gone down differently."

Being relatively new to the film profession at the time, the actress found the sequence challenging to shoot.

Elizabeth said: "It was a closed set and it was just me in this room and the boom guy above me.

"I was like, ‘This is so weird.’ It was a square room they had built in the middle of a warehouse and we made everyone that didn’t need to be there leave set.

"That’s the main thing I remember, just me and the boom guy, and trying to make jokes with the directors and make light of it because if I wasn’t nervous maybe they wouldn’t be so nervous… I just tried to make it no big deal."

Elizabeth shared her opinions on the notorious scene as well as her complaints about the accent she wore in the movie.

When Elizabeth was asked to have her lines translated for the movie, she became frustrated because she believed she couldn't get the Eastern European accent just right.

She reportedly warned friends not to watch the comedy movie since her experience was so awful.

Elizabeth said: "I told all my friends, ‘This movie’s gonna suck’ ‘cause they messed with my accent so much! I was like, ‘No, they’re ruining it, don’t watch it'.

"A lot of people did say my accent was terrible and I’m like, ‘Yeah, ‘cause they messed with it - they didn’t let me do what I wanted to do.’"

Three sequels to the 1999 film American Pie followed in 2001, 2003, and 2012, respectively.
