Someone who is overweight knows they are carrying more pounds than they should. They don't need to be reminded of their excess weight and what it is doing to their overall health. They are also very aware of this.
Still, these individuals hope that you see them as a human being who have feelings, dreams, and goals like the rest of us. Rather than point out what you see as a sign of weakness or laziness. Showing compassion and respect can go a long way.
Betsy Ayala was a new mom to her baby girl Isabella. Already dealing with the pressure of losing weight after the baby, she was dealing with postpartum depression. She needed the love and support from her husband. Instead, his cruel words left her feeling worthless and alone.
#1 After giving birth to her daughter Isabella in 2013, Ayala did not feel confident about her weight.
At her heaviest she tipped the scale at 261 pounds.
#2 The 34-year-old was dealing with postpartum depression and anxiety.
Her and her husband were going through a rough patch in their marriage. She admits food was a way of dealing with life's difficulties.
#3 Two days after Christmas though, she saw some of his Facebook messages between him and his mistress.
Ayala had been using Herbal life shakes but everything she had worked hard for began to unravel.
#4 "I was devastated"
"I found out through some messages I read on his Facebook where they were calling me a cow and a fat f*** and just trashing me and my whole world fell apart," she says.
She had been with her husband since she was 17. In fact, Ayala said he was the one who would often encourage her to eat unhealthy food. "Which is why I was so devastated when I read those messages because it was almost like he enabled me or wanted me to stay that way," she explains.
#5 After three months of finding out about the affair, Ayala took her life by the reins.
She joined dance and Zumba classes three times a week. She added running and weight lifting six times a week.
#6 To date, Ayala has lost an impressive 98 pounds through workouts and a high protein diet.
It's not just a body transformation she has gone through though. "I'm a completely different person both on the inside and outside because of my outlook on everything," she admits. "I was always very negative and had a chip on my shoulder because I was unhappy with me."
#7 "I know that I'm capable of so much and I'm so happy to set a good example for my daughter which is extremely important for me," she admits.
She sees herself happier, more positive, and confident.
#8 Ayala also forgave her ex-husband, realizing his actions were about him not her.
"I didn't know what to do with myself at the time. I was still over 200 pounds, with a six-month-old, and everything that I had worked for had just vanished," she recalls. "Now I honestly feel that what he did was a blessing because otherwise I would have been the way I was forever."
