As a result of the internet, we’re all familiar with the rise of the comments box when you order food online. You can leave extra details, a note of encouragement or basically anything your heart desires. As this story shows, sometimes people can get unusually creative with their special requests.

In this case, Fiona Cuffe was at home in Belfast, Northern Ireland with the flu and was feeling under the weather. Though she needed medicine to help with some of the cold symptoms, she had no energy to make the trip to get them herself. Instead, she put in an order to a nearby restaurant. While it initially seemed like any other online order, the staff at Feeley’s Fish and Chip Shop paused after seeing the additional comments on the receipt.

Though unusual, Feeley’s evidently puts a high premium on customer service—they delivered the order to Cuffe just as she requested and, just as she promised, Cuffe paid them extra money for the cold medicine.

For their part, the restaurant’s social media manager Daniel Casey said he was so amused as to be rendered speechless by the order. Still, the team felt it was important to fulfill the request. “Our customers are the lifeblood of our business,” he says, “and we will always do what we can for them.”

Though everything that unfolded may seem a bit silly, the entire story is pretty heartwarming despite its initial goofiness. Instead of treating her like a nuisance, Feeley’s decided to treat Cuffe like family and to complete her request. In fact, the restaurant even did her one better: they threw in an offer for a free meal which she could redeem when she was fully recovered. Of course, it’s also worth mentioning that Feeley’s got some great exposure out of the entire affair as well.
Aside from being a shining example of great customer service, this little tale is a reminder of how great little acts of kindness can be. In a world ruled by faceless and impersonal corporations, these little interactions between customers and local businesses offer just a little sense of community that might be missing.
Salutes to Cuffe for being creative and Feeley’s for being so understanding. Show Feeley’s Fish and Chips some love through their Facebook page and click here to catch the entire story.
