She Stopped Washing Her Hair For Two Months And Here’s What Happened
We’ve all read the articles about people who stopped washing their hair and found it actually made their tresses healthier, shinier, and stronger. For years, I’ve wanted to discover if these people were actually right, or if it was all the work of a rogue anti-shampoo conspiracy theorist lurking somewhere on the interwebs.
Most of us would never consider testing the “no-poo theory” (yes, it’s really called that). This is generally because to get to the healthy, shiny stage, you have to go through approximately eight weeks of greasy, dirty hell to get there. Our workmates or classmates are not going to appreciate having to sit next to a bona fide ball of filth for months, are they?
Why spend tons of money on harsh chemical shampoos when your body will regulate scalp oils for you?
This is why.
During the first few weeks of the transition to "no-poo," most women's hair becomes an oily mess.
There are all sorts of no-poo testimonials online.
The picture on the left shows this woman's hair after 20 days without shampoo. The one on the right shows what happened when she broke down and washed with baking soda, at least.
Josie Tutty shared her story. She made it two bizarre months.
"After about a month, things reached peak grease ball, and then everything just kind of...chilled out," Tutty wrote in a post on Viral Thread.
"But, sadly, that wasn't the shiny, bouncy, healthy head of hair I was promised by so many health blogs."
"It looked pretty bad, and when I finally caved in and slathered my head in shampoo, everything seemed right with the world again."
Lucy Aitken Read's experience was totally different.
She hasn't used shampoo in two years, she told "The Telegraph," and this is what her hair looks like.
The upshot of all this no-poo talk seems to be the depressingly common conclusion that everyone's body is different.
What works great for one of us might ruin the next.
Anyway, this video offers a technique that provides a comfortable middle ground between full no-poo and chemical hair treatments.
