She wanted to show through her photos that those born with the condition are just as beautiful and full of character as any other child, and though they may face more challenges, being born with Down Syndrome is definitely not a death sentence.

#4

In fact, life expectancy for those with the condition has increased a lot and extensive research is being carried out all around the world with the aim of improving the lives of those with the condition.

Why was this such a personal thing for Julie? Because her own sister Dina was born with Down Syndrome.

But for Julie she was just her sister; loving, funny and full of beans. Julie says she was "the best thing that could have happened to our family."

Sadly Dina passed away four years ago from congestive heart failure, something that is common amongst people with Down Syndrome. However, she still beat the odds against her by living twice as long as doctors initially predicted.

Julie hopes that her project will show that people with the condition can still lead very happy and fulfilled lives, and are fully capable of giving and receiving love and affection just like anybody else.
