Relationships with parents can be complicated. For some, however, the complications can often be downright traumatic.

So when OP's homeless and alcoholic dad decided to reach out and use them in a money scheme, they decided it was time for some payback.

OP's father had a history of being in and out of their life and in the time that they would be around, they would subject OP to significant trauma and manipulation.

OP's mother finally left their father with OP still having to spend weekends with their father. These weekends would be difficult for OP having to witness significant use of alcohol and tearful expressions of love through gifts.

After a brush with the police, OP's father decided to vanish and abandoned OP along with some animals that remained locked in his house.

Their father would also show up drunk at their school to the point, the school had to implement a safety plan for OP.

After this cycle of being abandoned by their father, OP received a Facebook message when they were 20. OP's father was offering them money and what 20-year-old doesn't need any?

They decided to swallow their anger and agreed.

When OP met with their father they were shocked by their dishevelled look. Time, alcohol, and homelessness had not been kind to their father.

Their father revealed that they had been getting money from OP's uncle but that the uncle would no longer support them. The uncle did however agree to help OP. OP's father, therefore, reached out to OP so they could skim $500 off the $1500 they were to receive from their uncle.

They made a call to the uncle using OP's phone to confirm the transaction.

For the transaction to be finalized, OP would require a code provided by the sender which their father was withholding in order to get their $500.

OP decided to text their uncle themselves and got the code directly for themselves. They then picked up the entire amount and blocked their father. Their father obviously did not take it well.

OP said that if their father had not tried to use them after all these years perhaps their behaviour would have been different.

They also clarified that they had thanked their uncle and had spoken with them directly. The uncle's motive was always to help OP and that's what happened.

They also clarified that the animals that were left behind by the father had been rescued.

Commenters were on OP's side. They said OP may have lied to their father but ultimately did what the uncle had intended.

Others applauded OP for standing up for themselves.
