After over 40 years, Jimmy Thyden reunited with his mother, Maria Angelica Gonzalez, exposing Chile's child trafficking issue in the 1970s and 1980s through their emotional reunion marked by 42 balloons.
Son Stolen At Birth Hugs His Mother For The First Time In 42 Years As They Get Reunited
Mother and son recently hugged one other for the first time in more than 40 years.
When Jimmy Thyden was delivered early, his mother in a Chilean hospital was given the opportunity to hold him briefly.
But a staff worker removed the infant and put him in an incubator.
Maria Angelica Gonzalez last saw her kid at that moment.
When she went back to the hospital to visit her Jimmy, she was informed that he had sadly passed away.
In reality, he had been turned over to child traffickers.
Jimmy was one of thousands of infants and kids who were taken away from their homes in the 1970s and 1980s.
On the other hand, he began to hear tales of Chileans who had been torn apart and then found their birth families.
Inquiring about their knowledge of his ancestry, the former criminal defense lawyer who now resides in Virginia contacted the nonprofit Nos Buscamos.
As soon as they started working on his file, they discovered his family.
Constanza Del Rio, the director and creator of Nos Buscamos, stated: "Just plain and simple they were stealing kids and selling them.”
"This was not for saving them from poorness or saving them from starving or whatever.”
"That was the movie they present. But the real story was that where -- these kids were stolen from poor families, poor women that... didn't know how to defend themselves."
After learning the location of his birth family, Jimmy, his wife Johannah, and their two kids, Ebba Joy and Betty Grace, boarded a flight to Chile.
No one in the house could keep a dry eye when Jimmy got to hug his mom Maria.
To represent each year he had been absent, they had placed 42 balloons in various locations.
Jimmy said that when he first saw Maria, it was really emotional, recalling: “She says, 'Mijo you have no idea the oceans I've cried for you. How many nights I've laid awake praying that God let me live long enough to learn what happened to you'."
He added: "How do you hug someone in a way that makes up for 42 years of hugs? 42 years robbed and stolen from us all crashing into this moment. 42 years, but not 43. Never 43."
During the amazing reunion, Jimmy also got to meet his four brothers and sister.
Their emotional embrace, with 42 balloons signifying each year of separation, highlights the enduring strength of families affected by this painful history.
